125th Year Anniversary Seeds Gathered Rooted in God's Love Receive and Share
We begin to celebrate some of our history in honor of our 125th anniversary. Now as you enter the church, under the portico, you walk under a banner which said "Norsk-Evangeliske Lutherske Menighed." This was significant because in 1887 the chuirch services were all done in Norwegian. When you exit the church, you will see "Vernon Norwegian Evangelical Church." Welcome to our past.

As believers of Christ, we celebrate the Lord's Supper.
We believe that we experience the tangible presence of Christ by eating the bread and drinking the wine. These elements convey the presence of Jesus Christ to our assembly of believers. (Matthew 26:26-28, Luke 22:19-20).
When we receive communion, we expererience His love and forgiveness.
All true believers of Jesus Christ are welcome to receive communion at Vernon Lutheran Church. Communion is served most of the time "by table" with small groups of people coming up to the front of the church to receive the bread and wine. Any changes to this will be announced during the service. Grape juice is available.
If you have any questions, do not hesitate to speak with Pastor Molly or one of the ushers prior to the service.
Traditional Service at 8:00AM
speaks to those who want a traditional feel, reflected by familiar hymns, accompanied by the adult choir and bell choir. Its for those people who want to re-connect with the type of worship they grew up with. It will be a time of familiar music, liturgy and song, with a message geared toward their life challenges.
Connect Hour at 9:15AM-10:15AM
offers a chance to gather for study of scripture for both adults and children.
Contemporary Service at 10:30AM
is a kid-friendly service geared toward families. This 10:30 am worship offers a contemporary look and feel. The music style, worship elements and everything about service reaches out to busy families. Families may choose to have their children attend Kids Church. Children will start the worship with the congregation, but then gather together for their own worship/Sunday school.
Stop by the Church Office for details and to pick up your coffee
Krismasi salamu from the coffee farmers of the Meru diocese in Tanzania. These farmers work the crops on their small farms to bring sustenance to their families and in most cases coffee is their only cash crop. For the most part they understand that the Mt Meru Coffee Project has been their financial life line and is now their financial safety net. It is helping to bring income to their families that will help them to afford health care and their childrens education. If they were here with us now they would tell you about the times when the only outlet for their coffee was through buyers for the large coffee traders that did not have the best interest of the small farmers at heart. They understand that the justice based Mt Meru Coffee Project functions for their best interest and that the members of the Mt Meru Coffee Project congregations, the Ambassadors in the congregations, the volunteers that help make it operate, as well as the board of directors, are all on their side.
Financial Update:
Your churchs efforts have helped to turn the year around. Even though the Mt Meru Coffee Project is as much about the relationships that have been formed between us and the coffee farmers of the Meru Diocese as coffee sales, it is important that we sell the coffee so that we can continue to be a financial safety net for the families that live on the small coffee farms. Sales were down through the first quarter of 2011 but have rebounded during the year and are nearly at the same pace they were before the slowdown.
A nursery for children ages 5 years and younger is available during the contemporary service. It is located down the west hallway. The nursery is staffed by experienced caregivers, and will provide a safe and nurturing environment for your child(ren).
We believe in the Triune God. God created and loves all of creation -- the earth and the seas and all of the worlds inhabitants. We believe that God's Son, Jesus Christ, transforms lives through His death on the cross and His new life, and we trust that God's Spirit is active in the world.
We are part of Gods unfolding plan. When we gather for worship, we connect with believers everywhere. When we study the Bible or hear Gods Word in worship, we are drawn more deeply into Gods own saving story.
The convictions shared by Christians from many different traditions are expressed in statements of belief called creeds. These ecumenical creeds that Lutherans affirm and use in worship confess the faith of the church through the ages and around the world.
Vernon Lutheran Church accepts the following creeds as true declarations of the faith of this church:
•The Apostle's Creed
•The Nicene Creed
•The Athanasian Creed

With Jesus Christ the center of their lives, a number of Norwegian families became the church and in their early stages, met at the home of Andreas Olson. On December 27, 1887, a decision was made to build a place of worship in the town of Vernon, Waukesha County. The church was named Vernon Norwegian Lutheran Church, with Andreas Oslon elected president; Soren Anderson as secretary; Simon Olson and Sam Johnson as trustees.
Rev. A.L. Huss, pastor or Norway Lutheran Church in Waterford, served as the first pastor. On February 16, 1888, arrangements were made to purchase land from Mr. Duncan Cameron for a church building. Sam Johson, Simon Olson, and Andrew Olson were appointed fund raisers and building committee.
On February 16, 1889, Andreas Olson donated a portion of land for use as a cemetery next to the church site (located on Hillview Drive just west of Oakdale Drive or Hwy XX). The church building was constructed in that year at a cost of $ 515.17. A contribution of $100.00 from the Norway congregation and the sharing of their pastor contributed greatly to the continued growth of the church during the years to follow.
In 1953 the congregation changed its name to Vernon Evangelical Lutheran Church and in 1956 Albert Sawyer sold a parcel of land to the church for $3,500.00 which became the site of the new parsonage constructed during 1957-58 at a cost of only $11,000.00 due to labor donations from the congregation.
In 1960 a new tract of land was purchased on Highway ES, east of Mukwonago, the present site of Vernon Evangelical Lutheran Church.
The first unit of our building was dedicated November 5, 1961. The present sanctuary, offices and classrooms were added in 1978-79 and dedicated April 1, 1979. On Sunday, June 4, 1989 ground breaking was begun on the last addition, Shepherd Hall, and was dedicated on December 10, 1989.
The connect hour is in between our two services at 9:15AM. This gives you the chance for fellowship and bible study. Currently, we offer:
