Stained Glass Windows - The Story.....

The second set of stained glass windows continues the Creation story "Days Three through Five."

SECTION 2 OF 5

Windows 11, 12
Day Three - The Land Windows
- You will now see brown and amber colors of dry land begin to emerge and separate from the blues and aqua of the water "And God said "Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place and let dry ground appear."  And it was so.  God called the dry ground "land," and the gathered waters he called "seas."  And God saw that it was good."  (Gen. 1:9-10)

Day Three - The Vegetation Window
traces, again, the blue-gray veil symbolizing God's Spirit presiding over all God's creations.  Grasses, seed-bearing plants and trees now appear and green hues of stained glass are introduced - "Then God said, "Let the land produce vegetation; seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds."  And it was so.  The land produced vegetation; plants bearing seeds according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds.  And God saw that it was good.  And there was evening, and there was morning - the third day.  (Gen. 1:11-13)

Day Four - Our Sun, Moon and Stars Windows
now flow into flares of amber and oranges in windows 14 and 15, forming our sun.  In window 16, the colors recede into the formation of the moon and stars.  Many jewels were set into this window to portray the formation of stars.  Window 17 shows the setting of the seasons with hues of color that we associate with the seasons of the year. - "And God said, "Let there be lights in the expanse of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark seasons and days and years, and let them be lights in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth."  And it was so.  God made two great lights - the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night.  He also made the stars.  God set them in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth, to govern the days and the night, and to separate light from darkness.  And God saw that it was good.  And there was evening, and there was morning - the fourth day."  (Gen. 1: 14-19)

Day Five - The Sea Animals and Birds Windows
have the colors of the stained glass receding once again into the blues and aqua of water and sky colors.  Fish and birds are now present in the ocean and sky.  Look closely and you will see a whale swimming in the ocean  "And God said, "Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the expanse of the sky."  So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living and moving thing with which the waters teem, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind.  And God saw that it was good.  God blessed them and said, "Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the water in the seas, and let the birds increase on the earth."  And there was evening and there was morning - the fifth day."  (Gen. 1:20-23)
